THE DISPATCH

Invincible Iron Man #16 by Gerry Duggan promises an epic clash of titans: Iron Man vs. Feilong! The story itself lives up to the hype, delivering a stellar brawl between the two armored heroes with a spectacle of ironclad fisticuffs. Moreover, Duggan injects some narrative intensity alongside the action, keeping the story reasonably entertaining. Nevertheless, the story itself tries to dive deeper into the machinations of Orchis, a shadowy organization with a vendetta against mutants and potentially all heroes, focusing on the ultimate fight between the Sentinel Buster Armor and Feilong’s fleet of Iron Man-infused Sentinels with James Rhodes at the center.

Throughout Invincible Iron Man #16, Duggan attempts to lay the groundwork for a larger conflict, hinting at a coming showdown between Iron Man and his allies against Orchis which promises a thrilling endgame before this Krakoan era comes to an end. The issue is an awesome set-up for future installments, but it might leave readers a bit too overwhelmed with much to be desired. Why? Well, there was an incredibly strong focus on action and almost no character development in this week’s issue.

ART

Artist Creees Lee depicts large-scale battles, with dynamic layouts that capture the power of Iron Man’s new arsenal well. However, the images came across as choppy and lacked depth and detail. Invincible Iron Man #16 is a fun and action-packed comic but almost focused too much on the Sentinel battle and missed out on the detail surrounding the human element of the issue. Yet, Lee certainly shines with dynamic fight choreography and illustrations of the high-tech weaponry unleashed by both Iron Man and Feilong.

FINALLY THOUGHTS

Invincible Iron Man #16 is a must-read for Iron Man fans looking for an action-packed brawl with some supped-up armor. Nevertheless, that’s about all we get this week. If you came to this issue looking for an epic battle between gigantic robots, you’ve come to the right place. However, Creees art was lacking this week and didn’t seem to complement Duggan’s story very well. Sure, the adrenaline-fueled adventure was front and center focusing on the Sentinel Buster armor versus War Machine and Feilong but that’s kind of all we get. Overall, Invincible Iron Man #16 is an average chapter that builds anticipation for the next phase of the series centered around a huge battle that lacks character depth with some artistic holes. Fans invested in the Orchis storyline will find this issue rewarding but others may enter this installment feeling a bit disappointed.
