THE DISPATCH

West Coast Avengers #9 continues to explore redemption and identity through the lens of his rogue Avengers. The cult-like Church of Ultron, introduced early in Duggan’s run, ignites internecine conflict with its splinter faction, Omega Ultron. This promises a layered smashfest: public spectacle meets existential drama as mechanical gods clash. The key tension question: can the team’s reformed Ultron—once their teammate—stay loyal when his “siblings” are tearing each other apart? You’ll have to dig in to find out!

Duggan’s portrayal of Ultron has evolved from ruthless AI to ambiguous savior. In West Coast Avengers #9, he’s tested on both sides—man vs. machine, father vs. child. This internal conflict is front and center. Moreover, the distinction between the two Ultron factions raises questions about ideology, control, and purpose. Are they both delirious cults—or twisted children turned against each other? However, built as a band of outsiders and rehabilitated villains, this West Coast Avengers team struggles to contain mech-chaos while wrestling trust in Ultron adding dramatic tension and moral complexity.

Danny Kim continues to deliver sleek, kinetic battles. We can expect towering Ultron giants clashing in dynamic layouts, with dramatic splintering metal and Stark-tech shine. Colorist Arthur Hesli likely enhances the chaos with cold metallic hues and fiery energy blasts—perfect for conveying a “war zone among gods.”

People, the massive mechanical titans fighting a cultist faithful is pure visual spectacle. Moreover, Ultron’s internal battle fits the series’ redemption arc theme with such emotional depth. Readers, this event builds organically from Duggan’s earlier character-driven storytelling. However, this issue may be a bit too stuffed. With two villainous factions plus ideological layers, the issue must avoid confusion. If his inner conflict isn’t convincingly portrayed, the drama may feel superficial.

FINAL THOUGHTS

West Coast Avengers #9 promises an explosive centerpiece in Duggan’s run—a literal Avenger civil war that tests loyalties, ideologies, and moral boundaries. If the issue balances blistering action and character psychology, it may become a breakout chapter in this quietly impressive series. Will Ultron’s choice be a redemptive stand or a betrayal How does Omega Ultron differ from the Church’s variant—ideology, powers, psychology Can the West Coast Avengers contain the threat without resorting to their own extremism?
