The Story

Skottie Young brings the quest to a satisfying ending in Twig #5.  And while it was satisfying, it did feel a little bit rushed, as if it needed just a few more pages to have the pacing feel right on point.   With that being said, Young did continue all that has been enjoyable up to this point with Twig growing as a character and learning about himself as he faces the challenges that the quest has in store for the Final Placeling.  Though the final solution to fixing the Heart Stone is slightly clichéd, that doesn’t detract from the overall story or the journey that our heroes have undergone.

After all, Twig has everything you could want from a simple adventure story: a fantastical world, a likable hero and sassy sidekick, high stakes and the means to overcome them.  While this issue wasn’t perfect, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Twig to anyone looking for a fun and easy read to get lost in.

The Art

Kyle Strahm and Jean-Francois continue their partnership through the end of the series with Twig #5All throughout Twig the art they’ve provided has been top-notch and so absolutely fun to look at.  The world that they have created alongside Young is nothing short of fantastical.  The colors and imaginativeness of each panel brings about a sense of wonder.  I hope that when readers are treated to more adventures in the world of Twig, that this art team will be brought back to bring them to life.

Final Thoughts

Twig is one of the most fun adventure series, capturing everything that makes Saturday Morning Cartoons so lovable.  The finale brings about a satisfying end and promises more fun to come.
