STORY

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #2“The Scoundrel’s Ball” written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Luke Ross is the second of a 5-issue mini-series that crosses over into the Marvel Star Wars monthly titles. In this issue, Lady Qi’ra (leader of Crimson Dawn) throws a party for the various crime syndicates throughout the galaxy, with the intention of auctioning off the carbonite frozen Han Solo. Boba Fett (who has recently discovered Crimson Dawn stole Han from him) learns of this auction and heads there to retrieve his stolen property. Upon his arrival, he soon learns that representatives from the Empire (as well as the Rebel Alliance) are also there to claim Han.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #2 continues the momentum generated from the first issue. Things are beginning to come together, as Boba Fett and the characters from the other Star Wars titles are starting to appear together in the storyline. Although the series centers around Boba Fett, it was nice to see Doctor Aphra appear in this issue and have a bigger role in the overall storyline. I really liked the pacing of the story throughout this installment. Soule does an excellent job of mixing action and dialogue in such a way that makes the story fun and exciting without it being confusing. Readers of any age can easily read and enjoy this issue. The illustrations by Luke Ross are good and compliment the story well. The artwork is consistent and adds to the overall enjoyment of the story. In this reviewer’s opinion, the characters all look true to form. I also need to give a shout-out to Steve McNiven & Frank D’Armata for the cover art – excellent job! This is one of those covers that calls out to you to pick up this book and read it!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #2 is just as good as Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #1. The story, artwork, and cover all make this issue well worth the price of admission. If you are currently reading this series you must pick this up and continue – you won’t be disappointed. If you are a new reader, you can easily read this series without getting all the tie-in issues from the other Star Wars monthly titles. My recommendation – go pick up issues #1 & #2 and enjoy the ride!
