THE DISPATCH

Following the reality-warping events of the 2024 Annual and issue #25, Batman and Superman are faced with a new threat: Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite, and this time, they’re insistent that it’s serious.  Can the World’s Finest team trust their impish adversaries to save all of existence? Let’s dive into Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26 and take a look! Well, Mark Waid continues his epic run on World’s Finest with a story that hinges on the often-comedic Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite taking a dramatic turn.  The issue opens with the imps interrupting a tense mission between Batman and Superman, throwing the heroes off-balance with their claims of an impending threat.

Waid walks a tightrope here, balancing the inherent silliness of the imps with the genuine peril they warn of. Unsurprisingly, both Batman and Superman are skeptical of the imps’ warnings, given their history of causing chaos for their own amusement.  And thus, the banter between the heroes and the imps is a highlight of the issue, with Waid perfectly capturing the characters’ distinct personalities.

I personally loved the “leveling up” that the villainous imps did to their Earthly counterparts making this issue a crafty and exciting surprise. Moreover, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26 promises a fun dynamic between the two powerful heroes and their mischievous counterparts.  If Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite can truly be trusted, this could be an epic team-up to save the day from this ingenious twist on a classic, silly villainous adventure.  Only time will tell if this unlikely alliance can put aside their differences to confront a greater threat.

ART

Dan Mora’s art continues to impress throughout Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26.  His clean lines and dynamic layout perfectly capture the action and humor of the story.  The opening splash page, featuring Batman and Superman facing off against a horde of fantastical creatures, is a particular standout as well as the cliffhanger page as this issue ends truly showing Mora’s talent and range of ability throughout the issue.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #26 is a fun and engaging read that sets the stage for a potentially universe-shattering storyline that many fans would never have dreamed up before.  Waid’s clever writing and Mora’s fantastic art make this a must-read for fans of the World’s Finest team and continue to showcase just why this series has been one of the best out of DC Comics for almost two years now. Pick up this issue if you’re a fan of Batman/Superman team-ups, or if you enjoy stories that blend humor and superhero action.  Plus, this issue is also a good jumping-on point for new readers, as it doesn’t require a deep understanding of past continuity.
