THE DISPATCH

The twist by Waid as Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #23 comes to a close is downright dastardly. However, the entire issue itself appeared to be a long fight with Gog monologuing overtop the whole thing. And if I’m being honest, I kind of forgot what was so bad about Gog’s plan. He was heading to take down Darkseid. Who wouldn’t want that? Sure, in war people die. But ultimately, Gog was hellbent on destroying Apokolips. Sounds good to me!

Nevertheless, Waid throws in a stellar dilemma at the end that just makes sense. What is Darkseid always looking for? The Anti-Life Equation! And what is more confusing is we always wonder what in the world the Anti-Life Equation actually is… until now! Let me tell you, I absolutely love the added twist by Waid and legitimately never saw it coming. This twist made the entire story come together perfectly. Why was this such a big deal? Why was Gog’s plan so important? And who cares if he tries to take out Apokolips? Well, Waid spells it out clear as day and I think everyone is gonna love it!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #23 felt like a movie once again. It even had the full page-turners that revealed some epic moments that felt like the climatic beats of movies masterfully. The action was extremely well-balanced and didn’t take anything away from the story while the art ushered the battle forward panel by panel with ease. No one would struggle following this issue. However, it was the raw emotion on the faces of both Supermen as well as Gog that just encapsulated this reviewer. It was so hard not to love this issue.

Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #23 felt like an event. Titans: Beast World… meh. This entire arc feels more like an event than anything DC Comics has pumped out recently. And who could beat Kingdom Come Superman tag teaming Gog with none other than… Superman? Come on guys, this story is solid gold. From the excitement to the incredible storytelling and stellar twists, Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #23 hits all the bells and whistles. If you’re just hearing about this series now, you’re not too late. Just snag the back issues and trades. It will be so worth the money and your time. If you’ve been following along to this point, go out at lunch and grab it right away! You can thank me later. Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God Bless!
