THE DISPATCH

Ok, so I just need to start by saying that Buccellato cannot write Batman. His voice is way off and way too opinionated. This Batman cares, appears to have emotions, and speaks his mind way too much. And honestly, it comes across as quite awkward for the character. Now, in prior issues of Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. King Kong, more characters also appeared to be out of character. However, not so much in Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. King Kong #4 as it was in the past. So, Buccellato does appear to be (somewhat) finding his bearings.

Now, the best aspects of Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. King Kong #4 were pretty simple: the monsters! These monsters are the stars of the book. We certainly aren’t getting much Kong yet but overall, we are getting a ton of monster action. Godzilla has basically taken down Superman and the Justice League can’t control the rest. Nevertheless, the fight setup as the issue ends between the three main monsters at the end should open issue five with some excitement. Additionally, I just have to say that I absolutely loved the tag team match involved with King Kong and Green Arrow. That was some good writing.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. King Kong #4 is mainly surface level just like the entire series to date. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. However, readers get monsters, action, and a crossover story they never thought they’d ever get. Ultimately, it reminds me of the Masters of the Universe stories where they meet the DC Characters. The writers have so many working parts to balance that it never really goes too deep but offers fans of all genres a little bit of excitement. And that’s what fans will get this week.

Fans get monster melee mixed with some killer art directly related to the monsters. However, even the art struggled at times when it was more involved with solely the DC Characters. If you’re a Godzilla or King Kong fan, this series is mainly for you. If you’re an Aquaman fan, this issue was more of a tease. You’ll have to wait until next week to see how he fairs. Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God Bless!
