THE DISPATCH

Things get absolutely insane as Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #21 continues this Kingdom Come story. Waid gives fans a pretty epic plot thread that thrusts our heroes against their counterparts, reintroduces a version of Gog, and a plethora of Kingdom Come heroes, as the issue wraps. Look, after reading this issue, you’ll get very few answers to anything. Nevertheless, the action is wicked and the plot curves are rather clever especially if you know the history of Magog and Gog. There is no doubt you’ll leave with more questions than answers BUT your excitement for the next installment will be through the roof.

Readers get Superman vs. Superman with the Kingdom Come version coming across as quite the jerk. Moreover, the Batman vs. Batman counterpart didn’t live up to the hype of the Superman battle but it was still great to see the sidesteps and counters. The biggest question that Waid reveals throughout Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #21 is simply why Thunderman is acting this way. Something is missing in this story. Granted, if you’ve been following Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest, it was made pretty clear that Boy Thunder was the younger version of Magog. So, we can see the connection unraveling but to what extent? Moreover, why are these Kingdom Come characters so incredibly brash and bullheaded? It’s because of these questions coupled with the onslaught of fighting throughout the comic that readers will truly be mesmerized from start to finish.

ART

Now, as glowing of a narrative as Waid’s story is, it’s Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain who steal the show. The coloring continues to resemble a dated look while Mora’s pencils and renderings provide fans with a thorough depiction of the action and characters with such detail. Moreover, each fight scene had so much power and movement with the Superman’s practically punching through each page. Additionally, the layout of each fight made the comic flow super well with the vibrant color choices bringing the issue to life. If you had to hand out the MVP for Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #21, it would undoubtedly go to the art team this week.

FINALLY THOUGHTS

Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #21 continues one heck of a story that ultimately takes place in the Kingdom Come Universe by its original creator. Meaning, he’s bound to get this thing right! And readers, there is no way you read this issue and leave disappointed. This sucker has nonstop action, amazing art, powerful moments, clever twists, and what appears to be an impossible cliffhanger. What more would you want? I don’t know about any of you, but I’m super pumped and impatient wanting this next issue… now! To anyone who hasn’t been reading Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest, you’re 21 issues too late.
