THE DISPATCH
Gerry Duggan kicks off this event with cinematic impact. After classic one-shots where Godzilla tangled with the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four, this latest issue unites the entire Marvel Universe—and its villains—to halt the monster’s rampage. Adding Dark Dimension detours and a new link to Wakanda’s vibranium opens ambitious potential: will Wakandan tech or mysticism play a role in stopping—or understanding—this beast?

Duggan escalates quickly—heroes unite, fail spectacularly, and recruit villains in desperation . With vibranium intertwined in the plot, Wakanda may emerge as both target and savior. The resonance of Godzilla’s power in vibranium-rich environments is emboldened and ominous. A jaw-dropping cameo suggests the Venom symbiote might bond to Godzilla—hinting at devastating new threats.

Javier Garrón delivers spectacular set pieces and cinematic panels. The series opens with iconic Marvel faces (Fantastic Four, X-Men) facing off in the rubble with grounded storytelling meeting an epic scope. Colorist Jesús Aburtov amplifies Godzilla’s aura with fiery tones and symbiote-black accents when hints of alien presence emerge. Whether devastation in Manhattan or portal-straddling battlefields, Garrón’s layouts capture dynamic movement and massive scale with precision.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 is an event-level ambitious story. Heroes and villains teamup with cosmic detours, and mystical narrative meat. Moreover, this issue has intensity from page one, yet breathes room for drama and teasers. Plus, the massive action translates beautifully in Garrón’s art. Yet, with so many threads such as Dark Dimension, symbiotes, and vibranium, the focus must remain sharp. However, Duggan should be careful not to misuse villains as gimmicks rather than meaningful characters with emotional impact. Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 is a monstrously fun kickoff to Marvel’s boldest summer event. Duggan’s script is lean and relentless, poking at mythic, technological, and cosmic lore all at once, while Garrón’s art brings unforgettable scale and energy. If future issues maintain focus—grounding the bombast in character stakes—it could define Marvel’s 2025 event season.
