THE SCOOP:

This is quite an interesting new take on the Batman Beyond series that fans have not seen before. Batman: Beyond the White Knight #2 presents new versions of Terry McGinnis, Bruce Wayne, Derek Powers, and the Joker, while still retaining elements of those characters from both the comics and the DC animated universe. There is an element that connects to a plot point from the Batman Beyond Return of the Joker animated movie while putting its own twist on it. Speaking of twists, readers are in for a surprise involving Harley Quinn near this issue’s end!

ART

Sean Murphy continues to be just as talented with his artwork as with his writing in Batman: Beyond the White Knight #2. His version of Neo-Gotham looks fantastic, and really captures the aesthetics of the show. Murphy also continues showing the alter egos of characters with shadows, such as Bruce and Harley, as well as Joker. The spare Beyond suit may intrigue fans and irritate others, as the color scheme is reflective of an animation error in the DC animated universe that astute fans will pick up on, which was probably done intentionally in a humorous way.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Batman: Beyond the White Knight #2 continues to impress and fans are sure to love it. The characters we think we know are explored in a new way and it leaves the reader guessing as to what will happen next. That is the mark of a good story, and this is definitely good storytelling. Based on the preview art, there are hints about what will happen next issue.  What are you most anticipating/hoping for?
