The Dispatch
Ninjago is in a state of war with the Serpentine and Young Garmadon feels the need to put an end to this by finding the means to defeat them. As mentioned in the introduction, this is Tri Vuong’s second time writing a comic set in the Ninjago universe and this time he will connect Dragons Rising to this earlier part of the universe. Though the series seems to have a rather generic beginning, the expansion of old and introduction to new characters is something that would be interesting to see throughout the series.

The characterization of Garmadon shows potential here as most characters that fans may be familiar with warn him that he may be on the wrong path ahead and that he lacks faith in other people. The new characters are introduced and have their quirks but most of them have not received characterization and that will probably be the case ahead too. But, if the plot set up by the writer continues to be generic then readers will lose interest by the next issue. It may be a rocky start but fans have great expectations from this book ahead.

The Art
The Art for Lego Ninjago Shatterspin #1 is perfect for the book. The pencils done by Tri Vuong make the characters fit the Lego style. The action depicted through the art is extremely well done as every action from Garmadon in this issue has an impact on the reader too. The colors by K. J. Diaz make the book pop and it receives its unique flare through them.

Final Thoughts
The artwork in Lego Ninjago Shatterspin #1 is the strongest aspect of the book overall and the characterizations of old characters are captured extremely accurately. The passion for Ninjago that the creators feel is felt while reading the book but if it continues to develop its plot on the path that it has started at it may not be long before fans just read it to gain more information about the universe and not because they are enjoying the book.
