THE DISPATCH

Green Arrow #12 promises a final confrontation between Oliver Queen and his nemesis, Malcolm Merlyn. Writer Joshua Williamson delivers on this promise, but the true impact hinges on whether you’ve been following this year-long storyline. New readers might be confused, but for those invested, this issue offers a satisfying culmination (mostly).

The creative team pulls out all the stops for the Oliver-Merlyn clash. The fight is intense and beautifully illustrated by the trio of Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur, and Sean Izaakse. However, the resolution feels rushed, leaving some lingering questions about Merlyn’s endgame. That said, one of the highlights is the return of familiar faces in Ollie’s life. The cameos add an emotional layer to the issue, reminding us of what he’s been fighting for. However, some of these interactions feel brief, leaving the potential for future exploration.

Plus, the final page throws a surprising curveball, sending Oliver back to the island where his journey began. This cliffhanger is intriguing, but it depends on how Williamson plans to connect it to the overall Merlyn arc.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Green Arrow #12 is a good conclusion to a larger narrative. The action is excellent, and the return of certain characters is heartwarming. However, the rushed resolution and the final page cliffhanger might leave some readers wanting more. For diehard Green Arrow fans who’ve been following this storyline, this is a must-read. For new readers, it might be best to start with an earlier issue in the arc to get a better understanding of the characters and stakes.
