Review:

So, the series has come to an end. However, the series ends with some of the biggest flaws from the show’s last two seasons in full view. The final confrontation between the heroes and villains is lackluster to say the least. The resolution with Queen Perdita is predictable and the conclusion between the Team and the main villains is disappointing and uninteresting to put it nicely. There will be light spoilers peppered throughout the review.

The issue picks up from where it left off with Queen Bee, Count Vertigo, and Psimon standing victorious over their dead enemies. Or so it appears that way. If you’re familiar with the show, then you probably figured it was all a fake out by the Team to trick the villains. And from there, the heroes would go on to end the fight and rescue Perdita from their clutches. That’s the short version of it anyway. I’ll be frank, the comic is well-written as far as dialogue and tone for both the main story and the backup story. But when it comes to the actual story and series of events, it’s far from good.

First off, the heroes’ fake-out was so predictable that you don’t even need to have seen the show to know that the “kills” weren’t real. So when the heroes get back up, readers won’t feel a triumphant feeling, rather a “Well, of course they’re not dead. It’s the second to last issue.” feeling. Second, the debut of Metallo was incredibly disappointing, but how the heroes beat was also handled poorly and just feeds into other issues with the comic and the main show that I’ve mentioned in previous reviews. But sticking to the comic, the story wraps everything up a little too nicely and clearly leaves some things open for the show to use in a possible fifth season.

Now, the backup does tell one last story, this time focusing on Wally and his connection to Perdita since it was his episode in the show’s first season which introduced Perdita to the show and expands on how it started this relationship between her and the team. The big problem in all of this is that the series and this issue in particular want to establish how Perdita is like “family” to the Team. But, due to the large size of the show’s cast, this was never shown at all until the last two seasons and even then she barely showed up. Overall, unless you really wanted to see and learn more of Queen Perdita and her connections with the Young Justice team, skip this book.

Final Thoughts:

Young Justice: Targets #6 brings this kidnapping story to a close. The dialogue, banter, and pacing is well-written, but the overall story and how the series of events play out were predictable and underwhelming. However, this does fulfill the purpose of being a side story for the show and characters, and it does show how far they would go for one of their closest allies and friends.
