It’s a new day for Superman after he and his allies defeated not only Doomsday but the very same alien species he once nearly destroyed, who came to Earth to destroy him at any cost. Now that they’re all locked away, bottled no less in a Brainiac-like bottle, Superman’s day is looking bright again. Or so he thinks, as we’ll see not all is as it seems in Superman #24.

Review:
Okay, now that the conflict with Doomsday and the Remnant are wrapped up for now, Superman and Superwoman are heading by SuperCorp to see what Lex Luthor and Mercy were up to, and boy do they get a surprise. Well, it’s not a surprise to readers as it’s a long time coming in this run with how Lex and Mercy were established. The thing with this issue is that things just seem to be another day for Superman kind of deal, until we get to the third part of the comic. That’s where things ramp up to eleven.

Okay, there’s not too much I can say without going into Spoilers, so – SPOILERS from here on out in the review.

Now, the comic does a good job masking the real plot in the story as we get several diversions. First, Lex getting arrested by Metropolis police once they got whiff of him regaining his memories. Second, Superwoman helping the Justice League fight alien Khund warriors using weird new tech. Lois even teams up with the Creeper of all characters too. But from there, things clearly start to seem off. Like, why were the Khund attacking, how did the police find out about Lex (which gets answered), and just why was Mercy pushing for SuperCorp to go public in selling some of their technology.

Well, we get those answers and most of it adds up as we find out the big villain here is Mercy! Turns out that Mercy is trying to follow Lex’s original plan for SuperCorp and Superman, or what she thinks was Luthor’s original plan. And hats off to the art team as Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira deliver excellent artwork in the comic with character expressions, paneling, the colors, and the action of course. It all looks so great! And we see it all on full display with everyone especially Mercy in the last few pages as she reveals what she’s been working on this whole time. Which I got to say, is something that I’m surprised we haven’t seen in a while. Hopefully the next issue continues to deliver on the writing and art.
Final Thoughts:

Superman #24 starts off the new story arc strong in a lot of ways and ends strong too. Where at first the issue feels like it’ll be just another side adventure for Superman and his friends, it quickly becomes something more serious near the end. The art team really delivered in this comic as everyone and everything looks great and the action feels dynamic too. And the ending doesn’t disappoint and sets things up for the next issue to be pretty big.
