The Dispatch:

Jonny Quest is one of the classic television shows with heavy influences from the comics of its time. Comic creators were hired to work on the show initially giving it a unique position among a lot of the other classic Hannah Barbera cartoons. It is only natural for it to have a comic book series too. There have been many other Jonny Quest comics in the past but none of them have ever really captured the magic of the original cartoon. But, that has ended as it seems Jonny Quest #1 from Dynamite has captured that charm and brought in a completely new plot line while doing so.

The dialogue and characters are exactly like the classic show and I don’t expect a lot of complexity yet but certain events in this issue are bound to change the characters permanently. The book is engaging and action-packed (that’s of course because of Race). Jonny Quest #1 captures the spirit of a nostalgic 1960s comic while being extremely accessible to younger audiences.

The Art:

The Art of Jonny Quest #1 is really well done and extremely important. The art of the book captures the feeling of reading a pulp comic as the pages have purposefully been given a yellowish tinge and the character designs are simplistic. If the art had not taken these liberties the atmosphere of classic adventure that the story wants to create would not have been captured and a lot of the story would ultimately lose its impact thankfully that wasn’t the case and the art is top-notch.

Final Thoughts:

Jonny Quest #1 is a nostalgic return to the adventurous world of the 1960s, perfectly balancing the classic feel of the original cartoon with fresh, exciting new elements. The storytelling and artwork harmoniously create an immersive experience that honors the original while inviting new readers into Jonny’s world. The comic successfully captures the essence of the beloved show, making it a must-read for both long-time fans and newcomers. Whether you’re in it for the nostalgia or the thrill of new adventures, Jonny Quest #1 is a satisfying journey back in time.
