Is Ms. Marvel a mutant? Is she Inhuman? What exactly is she? Well, you’ll find out in this year’s X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1. And trust me when I tell you, it’s no surprise to any longtime comic book fan. However, to any new recruit, since the MCU took hold and pumped out these streaming shows, this issue may be more of a shock to them. Nevertheless, if you’re expecting that to be a big-time shock, you’ll be sorely mistaken. Because as you know, every year since the Hellfire Gala has been introduced, some type of new mutant innovation is always revealed to the world. And X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 is no different. However, I won’t be the one to spoil that tidbit. You’ll have to get the issue yourself to find out!!!
What we do discover is some interesting developments around Ms. Marvel which could be exciting for the future of the character. Plus, we get a who’s who of mutants and people alike in a celebrity Red Carpet Showdown the likes that haven’t been seen since.. last year’s Hellfire Gala! Nevertheless, tragedy strikes a few overly cocky mutants and their leaders to boot showcasing the true colors of those involved as well as some best-laid plans! Finally, the chess match that has been slow-moving back and forth since HOXPOX is coming to some type of commotion. Think of it as though someone finally got the Queen. But you see readers, this Queen’s Gambit was orchestrated masterfully by Duggan. To speak of the epic moments would spoil WAY TOO MUCH. Let’s just say, if you’ve been following along since HOXPOX, you need to check this out ASAP!!
Nevertheless, let me say this: there hasn’t been an issue of X-Men this great since HOPOX. X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 might be the best issue of any X-Men Comic I’ve read in years. This very well may be better than HOXPOX. It has suspense, twists, turns, action, gut-wrenching reveals, sabotage, even more, powerful gut punches, and cliffhanger after cliffhanger. Excitement is an understatement of what this issue truly was. And as much as I want to share all the juicy details with you, that would just be rude and steal the amazement from what Duggan put together here. Again, all I can say is that you should all go out right now and get this issue post haste.

This single issue has re-sparked an interest in me that I thought was long gone, especially after the confusing chaos of the Sins of Sinister Event. Readers, X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 has it all and a bag of chips. Excitement, explosive story beats, and gut-wrenching emotion. And that’s saying a lot, especially of characters that can ultimately be resurrected. So again I say, go get this flippin’ issue right now! Go already!
