THE DISPATCH

Readers, with the almost relentless release of anniversary displays recently at DC COMICS, one would have to question immediately whether or not this is worth the buy. Now, noting many wouldn’t read a review encompassing a deep dive into each individual story, I will however take an overall pulse to see if it’s worthy of the extra-large price tag even with the beefy 100-pages surrounding it. Alas, I couldn’t help but find myself leaving this issue with a perfect depiction and snapshot of Diana from across multiple timeframes and eras in her long, boisterous career.

Simply put, the WONDER WOMAN 80TH ANNIVERSARY 100-PAGE SUPER SPECTACULAR #1 was powerful. For a comic that was set up as an anthology of multiple brief tales from a variety of different writers and artists, I found myself strangely, yet stunningly, locked into each vignette for a variety of different reasons and perspectives. Now, WONDER WOMAN fans should understand how truly odd this is because the character has gone through her fair share of metamorphosis throughout the past 80 years.

Nevertheless, the multiple creative teams did a darn good job highlighting so many of those different phases throughout her illustrious career. Some aspects of her past fans may have wanted to forget. Yet others were extremely reminiscent, sentimental, and depicted the character masterfully.

FINAL THOUGHTS

WONDER WOMAN 80TH ANNIVERSARY 100-PAGE SUPER SPECTACULAR #1 is perfect for the diehard fan wanting to remember the glory days of a character that’s been so foundational in what DC COMICS has become, as well as transformed into even recently. At every event and every era, WONDER WOMAN has been there to usher new readers into the next phase of comics with the present-day being no different. This 100-Page Super Spectacular does a fantastic job showcasing just what has made Diana Prince stand the test of time itself. Yet, I still find myself trying to overlook the steep price tag.

Fans, especially with times being as tough as they are, a $9.99 price tag is close to three comics instead of this one. Nonetheless, without a doubt, WONDER WOMAN fans need to grab this issue. Furthermore, fans who’ve been interested in dipping their toe into the character will find this issue extremely informative as well as inviting causing this reviewer to recommend the issue entirely even with the hefty cover price. Nevertheless, If you’re totally uninterested or on the fence with the issue, it may be best to stay clear and save the money at this time. Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God Bless!
