Our old pal Logan, or should I say, Patch, is back in his old stomping grounds of Madripoor. Let’s see if Ben Percy can craft a better story than Logan can disguise himself!
This issue is by far one of my favorite issues so far of 2021. Ben Percy works around the lamest disguise and alter ego in comic history with ease, and weaves a tale that will appeal to new readers as well as long time fans. It also desperately makes me want to read Weapon X!
As all readers know, a common trait in all the current X books is the so-called data dump pages. I’m not particularly a fan at all. Comics are a visual medium. Call me a child, but I like art in comics, not pages of text. Percy, however, makes great use of his data dump to give newer readers a brief one-page history of the Weapon X program, as well as showing that Logan and Maverick shared quite a bond and how they helped each other survive their horrible circumstances.
The art by Adam Kubert is outstanding right out of the gate in his flashback panels. His pencils clearly show the sense of pain and anguish.
The reason Logan is in Madripoor is quickly brought to light and conveniently brings the past to the present. He’s at an auction for reasons I won’t spoil, but I will say that some of the other items that come up for auction are very interesting and made this reviewer laugh out loud! There are also some other rather interesting characters in attendance. Their presence at the auction is made crystal clear too! Logan’s famous short temper is quickly put to test. I think we all know how this will play out. SNIKT!
The issue concludes in quite a remarkable way that also shows what a truly little dude Logan is! Kudos again to Adam Kubert.
Ben Percy has created the perfect balance in this issue of flashback/data dump/present story to leave me 💯 % engaged and searching Marvel Unlimited for Weapon X stories! I can’t wait for issue 10!!
