Part 3 of the X OF SWORDS event continues as Ben Percy takes the reigns with everyone’s favorite Canadian heading into battle to claim a sword of his own. As X-FACTOR #4 ended, readers learned that resurrection may not be possible in “otherworldly” conditions. Furthermore, in X OF SWORDS: CREATION #1, readers discovered that Apocalypse’s creepy Grandson was actually setting up his Grandpaps for a traitorous deathblow. Now, Wolverine, as well as the rest of the team, were tasked with finding and wielding these swords. However, prior news has suggested that a new arch-nemesis is on the horizon for Wolverine… and his name is Solem. Let’s slash into WOLVERINE #6 by Ben Percy to see what’s going on with these swords and who this new arch-nemesis is. Could he be more devastating than Sabretooth? Let’s find out!

An opening samurai showdown along with an overture to a new villain leads X-MEN fans on a trail for Muramasa. That synopsis basically (vaguely) summarizes this chapter in X OF SWORDS. Now, don’t get me wrong, WOLVERINE fans will definitely find this issue interesting, especially with the minor (yet quick) guest stars. But ultimately, Percy uses this story as the informative predecessor to his X-FORCE #13, which I highly recommend reading in conjunction as well. From Percy’s standpoint, he basically has two issues to tell “his” story as opposed to the others writing this event. All I have to say is… LUCKY DUCK!!!

Percy gives readers a quick foreword to Solem, his connection to the people of Arakko, his possible abilities, and the thought-provoking idea that a showdown between Solem and Logan will be one epic battle on the horizon. Meanwhile, Viktor Bogdanovic mesmerizes with some killer pages of Wolverine in one hell of a hot mess. They are so detailed and had this reader on the edge of his seat as the issue came to a close. Readers, you have no choice but to follow this up with X-FORCE #13 for the answers. Nevertheless, as interesting as WOLVERINE #6 was, this can be totally skipped by fans completely uninterested in X OF SWORDS. This is a tie-in event like the days of yore. So, feel free to skip this issue if you’re uninterested in this story and wait for your regularly scheduled WOLVERINE to be back when this wraps up.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Percy and his team do a fantastic job filling In the gaps after X-FACTOR #4. Our understanding as to the direction of the next couple of issues in the event is laid out beautifully with purpose and direction. Additionally, Viktor Bogdanovic’s illustrations were truly stunning and packed with vivid detail. The only problems readers may have with this issue is the lack of action and the interruption within Percy’s regularly scheduled program. However, if you’re all in on X OF SWORDS, this illuminating enterprise will be the perfect guidance moving forward while furnishing fans with just enough of a hook to push them through to X-FORCE #13. But fear not X OF SWORD fans because your answers await you THIS WEEK! Grab this issue, as well as X-FORCE #13, and let me know what you think!
