THE HOOK:

Time Before Time #6 arrives from Image Comics to kick off the next part of Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville’s epic time travel tale. Shalvey and McConville take the time to pull back more of the curtain as they reveal a bit of how and why some of the time travelers are moving through time. Grab a torch or flashlight as we crack open Time Before Time #6 to see what all the fuss is about.

MY IMPRESSIONS:

Time travel has always been one of the go-to stories in popular fiction. With Time Before Time #6, Shalvey and McConville shift the focus of the story from the characters that we’ve been following and introduce new ones and a few that we’ve met previously. By using the concept of time travel, we can meet the same characters at different points in their tale. I really enjoyed seeing some of the reasons that people are traveling through time in the series. It’s also disheartening to think that the characters are faced with the same reality that we have here in that the grass usually isn’t greener on the other side of the fence.

THE ART:

Declan Shalvey has gorgeous linework in most of his work. However, the pages that he is putting out in Time Before Time are a masterpiece. Seeing how the characters react, shadows move, and simple things like the worn look of the characters is not something that all artists can pull off. Shalvey has always been someone worth following, especially when he goes all out. Time Before Time is one of those instances.

I like to believe that he is producing some of the best work of his career because he’s illustrating his own story. Chris O’Halloran’s color are something else that should be pointed out. Anytime you’ve got a series that utilizes time travel, the color tone always seems to be one of the methods used to highlight the different time eras. O’Halloran is knocking this out of the park. Excellent job all around.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Time Before Time #6 is the first part of the second storyline from Declan Shalvey and Rory McConville. Their take on time travel is one that is more unique than a number of the others that are floating in fiction. Seeing them moving the spotlight to new characters is a joy and hopefully, something that will help build the world of Time Before Time into something special! A great start to the second chapter.
