THE DISPATCH

So Adams, throws readers right into the thick of it. The cliffhanger with Omega-Bam-Man just rolls right into landing at the Palace of Eternity with references thrown around about the Lord of Time. And I get it, this is Adams’ last hurrah. He doesn’t have time for pleasantries. However, there is a disgustingly thick past involving this Palace and the Lord of Time that we’re just skimming over in order to jam this story in. Don’t get me wrong… it’s good. It’s cluttered with action and humor which has been at the root of Adams’ entire Flash run. Nevertheless, that’s what I found the most disappointing. When a writer has a good story to tell but feels rushed to cram it in, everyone loses including the writer. And I can tell this story feels crammed and rushed. If only he could have had more page count or time to thoroughly tell it, I feel like it could have been even better!

That said, it has a chance to get better. Readers will notice a crazy discovery for Mister Terrific that I hope gets explored by someone and an entire adventure left outside the pages of Flash #799. Judging by the size of Wade at the end of the issue, it’s at least 6 months to a year long. My point is that Adams still has an opportunity to continue his story with Wally in another series. Sure, this specific brief tale was cut short but we may still get more of Wally and Adams in the future. And PLEASE tell me that someone else isn’t running with this story. Adams set it up so he should be the one to drive it home.

As for the Flash #799 specifically, it was quick, fast-paced, chalked full of action, humorous, fun, and inviting. It’s what every issue of Adams run has been to date. To those fans who have been locked in on this series since he took over, you’ll absolutely love this issue. Sure, it has its corny moments… but that’s HIS Flash. People just hopping in now are going to leave depressed. Why? Because they’ll discover that he’s leaving the series. However, if you’re looking for something right up your alley with Adams, just dive right into Green Lantern that just started off with him at the helm.

ART

This art team of Pasarin, Albert, and Grawbadger have an absolute field day with the renderings and designs of the Flash #799. The gargantuan monsters, splash pages, facial expressions from the team members, and the deep coloring make for an outstanding visual ensemble. Furthermore, the action sequences are magnified well with the sharp background transitions and dynamic lettering showcasing how poignant each punch or shot could be. Excellent job by everyone involved!

FINAL THOUGHTS

To semi-quote one Ferris Bueller, The Flash #799 moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. It’s that quick people! Almost from page one, action, gigantic titans, Eternity Palace’s, time and space manipulation, and so much more! The subtle humorous exchanges are classic, and the underlining family motifs and relentless action make for an incredibly fun issue. However, there is so much meat left on the bone. The in-depth story Adams could have told and the vibrant storytelling that was cut to squeeze this in was a bit upsetting. Sure, Adams still made it enjoyable. But, we’ll never know what could have been if he was given the proper page count and time to tell the full story. Additionally, I just want to go on record saying that the side adventures we missed from Wally should not be undertaken by anyone other than Adams. He deserves to tell that story. And I hope we get it soon! Great issue! Adams fans should pick this up as well as Wally fans post haste! Let me know what you think, have a great week, and God Bless!
