Within the past decade, thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos has become the villain of all villains. If you will, it was the “snap” heard round the world. Average Superhero fans have come out of the woodwork diving headfirst into comics like never before. And sure, everyone has had an affinity for Marvel Characters to one degree or another, however, it was AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR in 2018 that sealed the deal. The AVENGERS movies helped usher this genre of nerd culture into the limelight of social media and present pop culture. And yes, I understand that ever since the first X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN movies back in the early 2000s, trends and acceptability have been gradually changing. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it’s Thanos who’s made comic culture more socially acceptable.

Now, with the next phase of Marvel movies slowed thanks to COVID, as well as the influx of Marvel-related DISNEY PLUS shows kicking off with WANDAVISION, fans are clamoring for movies and epic stories. Everyone wants to know, what’s next? However, what this comic book journalist continues to discover all over the internet is that people have this deep attraction towards Thanos. Heck, you’ll even find some fans agreeing with his tactic! Some would say, “Thanos was right.” So, it hit me. Why not give the average comic fan/ MCU fan exactly what they want… MORE THANOS!! But, how?

Well regardless, here’s the catch: in the MCU the Mad Titan is dead. And, until very recently in the Marvel Comic Universe, he was also dead. That’s right! SPOILERS AHEAD: as of the ending within ETERNALS #1, the one and only Mad Titan is back. Now, we don’t know exactly how or why yet. But, we do know he is alive and back in the habit even more so than SISTER ACT 2. And, if it’s any correlation to the MCU, it’s only a matter of time before Thanos is back on the big screen as well. For those that don’t already know, he’s also an Eternal, which means he can’t die… kind of. Basically, he can be brought back to life. Furthermore, keep in mind, there is an ETERNALS movie ready to burst the cinematic doors wide open within 2021. As of this article, the movie is scheduled to be released on November 5th, 2021 to be exact. So, who knows what direction that will take?

This brings me to why you are all here: a Thanos Comic reading order! Why not wet your whistle with some history about the Anti-hero/ villain which everyone can’t get enough of. While we wait to see the return of Thanos (and yes I believe we will on-screen), why not dive into some of the history and lore surrounding everyone’s favorite Marvel Cinematic character! So, below is a reading order of trades and quick synopsis’ of those trades that you just simply need to get your hands on in order dating back from his first appearance in IRON MAN #55 back in 1973 through to the present. Plus, Amazon links are attached to each trade for you to get your hands on them more efficiently. I hope this helps provide a more thorough history of Thanos, The Eternals, The Titans, the Infinity Stones, and so much more for even the long-time Marvel Comic fan.
