STORY

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters – 4-Lom & Zuckuss #1 written by Daniel Jose Older with art by Kei Zama, features bounty hunters Gand Findsman Zuckuss & droid 4-Lom after their devastating battle with Boba Fett in War of the Bounty Hunters #1. Having been left for dead, Zuckuss is found by Trot and learns the fate of 4-Lom. Devastated and lost, Zuckuss recalls some of the adventures he and 4-Lom had together in the past. Meanwhile, on Tatooine, a disabled and disassembled 4-Lom is sold to Dr. Cribiriz who plans to use a rebuilt 4-Lom for revenge against Zuckuss.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters – 4-Lom & Zuckuss #1 is a fun issue for fans of these two characters. It has little to do with the Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event, even though it is considered a “tie-in.” The focus is on Zuckuss as he recovers from his battle with Boba Fett and mourns the loss of his droid friend and bounty hunter partner – 4-Lom. The events in this story take place before the events in Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #15 and readers of the crossover should take note and read them in this order. I say this because the crossover checklist has this issue listed AFTER Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #15. However, there is a scene with Zuckuss in Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #15 which happens after this issue, and readers of both will better appreciate that scene after having read Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters – 4-Lom & Zuckuss #1. That being said, I did enjoy reading about Zuckuss and learning more about his backstory with 4-Lom. Writer Daniel Jose Older did a nice job of segueing from the plot featuring Zuckuss and the one featuring 4-Lom. I also appreciated the manner in which he had Zuckuss tell his past adventures with 4-Lom to Trot. The artwork by Kei Zama is solid and consistent throughout and added to the overall enjoyment of the story.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters – 4-Lom & Zuckuss #1 is a fun read that I believe fans of the characters of Zuckuss and 4-Lom will enjoy. Star Wars fans who are not interested in these characters, and are only interested in the Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters main storyline should pass on this issue. New readers will probably be confused by this issue and should read the main Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters storyline first.
