After four issues of what has been a really good start to this volume of Darth Vader, this issue takes a slight down tick in my opinion. It’s not bad by any means, but I just get the feeling I’ve read this issue before. It has several key plot points that have been repeated several times the last few issues. 
Vader is on a vengeful, hate-filled quest. He continues to be barraged by flashbacks of his life with Padme prior to him turning to the dark side. 
The flashbacks continue to be done in a fashion where the background colors drive home the point that you are in fact reading/looking at a flashback.
Zed-6-7 also continues to be the comedic relief of the series. Greg Pak does give the droid a unique personality that differs from any of the other popular droids in the Star Wars universe. You can see by my multiple uses of the word “continue” that every thing in the first third of the book has been done in basically every issue so far. This book will get stale quickly if this continues.
For me, the highlight of the issue story-wise and visually is a massive battle on a new planet. There’s nothing quite like a Star Wars battle raging in space while another is simultaneously going on the ground. We also get a spectacular double-page spread by Raffael Ienco highlighted by the colors of Neeraj Menon. It really captures the essence of Star Wars.
Final Thoughts:
While there are elements of this issue that are much too similar to previous ones, we do get some progression to the story, albeit with not one, but two shocking cliffhangers. One of which made this reviewer a bit sad. This series continues to impress with a solid study of one of the most popular villains in the history of, well anything.
