Review:
Here we are, the final issue of Kang The Conqueror, and everything comes full circle in this issue. We see Kang enact his latest plan yet – to infuse Ravonna’s essence into the timestream so that she has infinite chances to live and so he has countless opportunities to save her from death. This feels like a solid Kang story idea that could and probably should’ve been explored in another miniseries or an Avengers storyline where he enlists the Avengers to aid him in rescuing Ravonna from her fated death.
The story weaves together time travel with a story about a man trying to save his fallen love but proves to be the jailer behind her fated existence as illustrated here. Plus, it doesn’t help that Ravonna is a very strong-willed woman who doesn’t generally like the idea, no matter her incarnation, of someone controlling her fate for her. It’s tragic in a classical and conetmporary sense as her final denial ends Nathaniel Richards and full brings forth Kang The Conqueror.
From there the comic does what most people expect for a time travel story and loops in various other pre-established elements together for its conclusion. Once again, Carlos Magno and Espen Grundetjern bring their art skills to the table as the comic delivers what can only be described as epic pages of Kang The Conqueror. And like the previous issue, they will be hard to miss.
Like I said before, everything in this comic comes full circle as it expands on previous plot points that were established in earlier issues. It’s not groundbreaking nor is it completely satisfying, but this issue and this series is pretty good. Since Marvel Comics is putting so much focus on Kang mainly because of his debut and future appearance in the MCU, Marvel readers will be getting more Kang in due time.
Final Thoughts:
Kang The Conqueror #5 delivers a series finale that winds up bringing everything in this series full circle. Kang enacts his final plot in the series in his greatest attempt to save Ravonna from her fate, and it all spirals out of control the only way a Kang time-travel plot could. The artwork by the art team is the biggest star here as every major shot of Kang is nothing short of epic for the series’ conclusion.
