The first thoughts of anyone reading HELLIONS #3 this week will be how amazingly badass Alex Summers is. Immediately following their thoughts of Alex Summers, their mind will turn to how messed up Madelyne Pryor really is. By far, these two are the star of the show this issue. However, in an extremely close second, Steven Segovia‘s art is beyond stellar and filled with such attitude. Furthermore, David Curiel’s colors are so vivid and vibrant that each individual panel pops off the page.

Now, as amazing as Havok and the Goblin Queen were this issue, Kwannon was also elevated to brand new heights. Zeb Wells has done more for these characters in three issues than any writer has done in years. Heck, Kwannon even had her own series (remember FALLEN ANGELS) during the DAWN OF X and Wells STILL has progressed the character farther than this reviewer ever anticipated.

Overall, the story makes sense. Madelyne Pryor’s agenda is realistic and shows true rationale and reasoning for someone who seems so crazy. Furthermore, Alex Summers’ motives also appear genuine while the reunion between the Havok and the Goblin Queen seems like something straight out of a Horror Flick. Wells continues to find a way to take a band of misfits who still aren’t technically formed as a team and manages to make this series hum beautifully, which just shows the talent of this entire creative team.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Simply put, this is a very impressive series that everyone needs to be reading. HELLIONS #3 is creepy in all the right places with all the wrong characters. Wells uses the mutant land of misfit toys to bring forth one of the best titles currently running at Marvel Comics right now. Match Zeb Wells writing with Steven Segovia‘s brilliant illustrations and detailed artistic license and you have a book that’s 100 times more memorable than the Goblin Queen herself. This issue is fast-paced, cluttered with action, and submerged with this aroma of eerie that will practically seduce you into a reread faster than Madelyn Pryor’s outfit! Pick up HELLIONS #3 while you still can and add HELLIONS to your pull list. Readers, we’re only three issues in… so it’s not too late to get on board with one of the best, most exciting books at Marvel Comics right now.
