Daredevil is my favorite book coming out right now in all of comics, so while I am not a massive fan of Annuals in general, I will take all the Matt Murdock I can get. Add in the “One More Day,” and I was pumped as all hell to dig into this one. So, what is up with Matt, and will this get him out of his current predicament? Let’s find out…

With all the shit hitting the fan for Matt, I was afraid this One More Day was going to be an easy way out for him and Chip Zdarsky, but I should have known better. The reason I’ve loved this run so far is the mix of new and old that Zdarsky has been giving fans, and this Annual not only continues that but ups the ante.

This Annual is not really about Matt; it’s about his twin brother, Mike. You know, the made-up Mike Murdock that Matt used to hide the fact that he was Daredevil. Well, he is made-up no more! The story may take a couple of pages to sink in, but once it does, it changes the Daredevil mythos in a smart way that may not stick forever, but for now, it seems pretty damn awesome.

The best part of the change is that it doesn’t wipe away everything that fans have been reading up until now. Matt may still end up in jail for murder, but other stuff is up in the air. That’s the mystery of it, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. The cool part of it all is that this is an excellent jumping-on point for new readers, while also being a great continuation of this series, while also being an incredible revision for long-time Daredevil fans. As I said, it may not stick, but I am excited to ride with it for a while.

I am trying not to spoil much here, but if you are a Daredevil fan, I would check this out immediately! The writing is spot-on, and the combined art of Manuel Garcia and Chris Mooneyham works so well. I sometimes skip Annuals because they are side-stories not even connected to the current run, but this is a must-read, and I loved it!

Final Thoughts:

Chip Zdarsky changes the game for his Daredevil run without wiping out the importance of the preceding issues at all. No matter what you think of the “One More Day” on the cover (or Annuals), I think you will be surprised by what Zdarsky adds to his story, and I can’t wait to see more. If you haven’t been reading this run, there is no better time to start than now.
