THE DISPATCH
Mark Waid, the narrative wizard himself, opens Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #16 in astonishing fashion by ultimately catching fans up on the past three issues within the first three opening pages. Fans quickly recap this A.I. War that’s broken out across the world and our heroes seem to be trapped at the hands of this Newmazo! However, with the voice of Will Magnus, Waid irons out every aspect of Newmazo’s plan making this the perfect issue to summarize where this story has been and where it’s heading. And can I tell you, Newmazo looks practically unbeatable reminding me immensely of a more passionate and respectable Ultron.
Additionally, Waid builds a rather intense story that will keep fans on their heels throughout most of the issue. Fans will get to see the command and planning from Batman, the intellect of Will Magnus, and the cooperation of the entire Justice League making me wonder why Waid doesn’t get back on a Justice League title. Nevertheless, it makes sense for Waid to hang out in these World’s Finest titles where it’s almost as if his stories can stand outside of continuity on their own in any season. It’s really quite clever.
ART
Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain give Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #16 the one-two punch that puts this story over the top. The colors are vibrant and bright while coupled perfectly with killer detail woven into the facial features and expressions of the characters. Lasers fly threw panels, characters soar across pages, and all while the backgrounds drop out to incorporate added tension into the comic. Altogether, Mora and Bonvillain put Batman/ Superman: World’s Finest #16 over the edge making this week’s tale a must-buy for any Batman or Superman fan.
