THE SCOOP

The thrilling conclusion to this series! Batman: Beyond the White Knight #8 is a fun ride and wraps up the story nicely, re-imagining the characters in a fresh new way and offers potential for future spinoff comics. It really shows the bat-family coming together, and it depicts Bruce as a compassionate father figure. It is interesting though that despite this being set in the future, Bruce and Barbara are really the only characters who appear to have aged significantly. This comic not only shows Bruce opening up more to those who care about him, but it also shows that Batman isn’t just a person, but an idea and a responsibility to live up to, as evidenced by Terry’s refusal to change Bruce’s moral code.

ART

Great artwork in Batman: Beyond the White Knight #8. The most significant panels were the ones featuring the Batmobiles (such as Keaton’s Batmobile and the Tumbler from the Nolanverse) and a great panel of Bruce triumphantly emerging with his Batman mask on once again.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Batman: Beyond the White Knight #8 provides a great sendoff for this story of the bat-family and the re-imagined Batman Beyond origin, and also leaves the door open for future spinoff stories featuring cameos from a few Justice Leaguers at the end. It gets to the heart of who Batman is, both the character of Bruce Wayne, his legacy, and the symbol of the Dark Knight, and what that ultimately stands off. Murphy did a fantastic job telling this story.

  1. As I was reading this issue I was feeling nostalgic, fuzzy and a bit verklempt, the great White Knight Universe was coming to an end. Wow, what an amazing run. That was until I got to the final page and…wtf? It’s continuing? With naughty Pig drawing Mirka Andolfo? And Murph doing Supes and Double Dub??
