THE HOOK:

Adventureman #5, by Matt Fraction and the Dodsons, arrives this week from Image Comics.  It’s a story of rediscovering what you didn’t even realize had been lost making this a great premise from excellent storytellers.

MY IMPRESSIONS:

Adventureman #5 feels more like a conclusion for the previous arc rather than the kick-off of a new adventure.  This is even mentioned in the material after the story about Adventureman #6 being the start of the next storyline.  That said, this was still an awesome book to read.  Matt Fraction and the Dodsons are really firing on all cylinders as they spin a web that would nestle neatly in the middle of any of the old dime store novels from long ago.

THE ART:

Terry Dodson draws it.  Rachel Dodson inks it. And then, Terry colors it.  Their teamwork leaps from the pages.  I’ve always enjoyed opening a book and seeing their names in the credits; this book is no different.  From the cover, all the way to the final panel, on the last page, they are masters of their craft.  Their depiction of the battle throughout the issue was absolutely amazing.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

With Adventureman #5, Matt Fraction, Terry Dodson, and Rachel Dodson have what can only be considered a great story on their hands.  From the very beginning of the issue to the final “To Be Continued,” I was completely engaged.  The characters are fascinating and the story really pops.  I can’t wait for Adventureman #6.
